P&K Park Secures Dismissal of Manufacturer-Client Based on Lack of Personal Jurisdiction

In November 2024, the Superior Court of the State of Arizona, Maricopa County granted dismissal in favor of our client, HL Mando Corporation (“MDK”), a foreign manufacturer of vehicle components.  Following jurisdictional discovery, the Court held that Plaintiff had failed to demonstrate that the Court can exercise personal jurisdiction over MDK. The Court reasoned that Plaintiff provided no evidence to demonstrate that MDK purposefully availed itself of the Arizona marketplace. The Court found the circumstances analogous to Asahi Metal Indus. v. Super. Court, 480 U.S. 102 (1987), stating that, the only connection, on the current record, to Arizona, is that vehicles containing MDK’s parts ultimately made their way to the State. Sei Joon (Steve) Park, Christine Emery and local counsel participated in this win.
